Don't Let It Drop: Email the Council Before Next Week's Meeting
The council ratified Option 2A on May 20th, but the Main Street issue is not finished. Staff still have to finalize the design, bid the project, and build it. Construction is estimated for this fall. There is still reason to keep telling the council we deserve better bike infrastructure.
The City Council meets again next week. If you already emailed them once, that is fine. Send another one. If everyone who has sent an email before did it again, it would be well over a hundred emails that council would have to acknowledge!
Why send another email
Councilors hear from a lot of people about a lot of issues. The ones that stay on the agenda are the ones that stay in front of them. A single email in February does not carry the same weight as a steady stream of comments that shows the council this is something the community still cares about. We have a template here that makes it easy. It only takes 2 minutes!
A few things worth reminding them of:
- Option 2A removes the protected bike lane and replaces it with a painted, non-protected one. (Similar to Jackson Street)
- Public comment goes on the official record. It is part of how the process is documented.
- This is all for more car storage, which downtown already has enough of.
How to email the council
Send your comment to PublicComments@cityofmedford.org. It will be recorded in the official meeting minutes.
The easiest way to do it is our Take Action form. Fill in your name and address and it opens your email app with a pre-filled comment you can edit.
Better yet, show up
Email gets you on the record. Showing up gets you seen. The council meets next week, and a room full of people is the strongest message!
Roll up with us: mini bike ride beforehand
Join us for a short, easy bike ride to the meeting. We will gather at the Hawthorne Park parking lot at 5:25 PM and ride over together.
Keep it up
This is how it has worked from the start. People who keep showing up and keep writing are the reason Main Street is still being discussed at all. Don't let the issue drop from their brains. Send the email.
