Show Up Tonight: Email or Ride With Us
The Medford City Council meets tonight, Wednesday June 3rd, at 6:00 PM at Medford City Hall, 411 West 8th Street. The council ratified Option 2A on May 20th, but the Main Street issue is not finished. Staff still have to finalize the design, bid the project, and build it, with construction estimated for this fall. There is still reason to keep telling the council we deserve better bike infrastructure.
Three ways to be counted tonight
1. Ride with us. Join us for a short, easy bike ride to the meeting. We will gather at the Hawthorne Park parking lot at 5:25 PM and ride over together.
2. Show up. If a bike ride isn't your thing, just come to City Hall. Try to be there by 5:45. You don't need a speech. You can just say five words: "I support the bike lane." The council listens, especially to new faces. When nobody shows up that signals consent for Option 2A.
3. Email. If you can't make it in person, send a comment to PublicComments@cityofmedford.org. Comments received by noon on the day of the meeting get entered into the official record. The easiest way is our Take Action form, which opens your email app with a pre-filled comment you can edit. It takes 2 minutes. Also, it's ok to email multiple times.
A few things worth reminding them
- Option 2A removes the protected bike lane and replaces it with a painted, non-protected one. (Similar to Jackson Street)
- This is all for more car storage, which downtown already has enough of.
Why tonight matters
Every meeting where the room is empty, the council hears silence and calls it consensus. The ones who keep showing up and keep writing are the reason Main Street is still being discussed at all. Don't let the issue drop.
See you at Hawthorne Park at 5:25, or at City Hall at 6:00.
